Master Gardener Foundation of Washington State

Application from Snohomish County for

Mary Robson and Van Bobbitt Scholarships - 2010

 

One of the purposes of the Master Gardener Foundation of Washington State (MGFWS) is education. The Master Gardener Foundation of Washington State offers two (2) one thousand dollar ($1000.00) scholarships to enable students to study in horticulture and its related fields. These scholarships, in the name of Mary Robson and Van Bobbitt, can be awarded to high school seniors or to students entering a college/university for the first time as a full time student. A person may receive the scholarship only once and must meet the following requirements.

 

Applicant must be:

  •  Sponsored by a Washington State County Master Gardener Program.
  •  Accepted by a recognized accredited college/university.
  •  Planning a course of study in Horticulture or related fields.

 

To apply, submit the following:

  1.  The completed application cover sheet.
  2.  A copy of grade transcripts plus GPA.
  3.  A one or two page essay on your choice of vocation or profession, how you have planned for the future, and how your education will influence that future.
  4.  A summary of your activities and service to your family, your school and your community. This summary should include any awards or honors received and may be submitted as a résumé.
  5.  At least two (2) letters of recommendation (one preferably from an instructor).

 

Criteria for the Scholarship:

Applications will be judged on the county and state level on the basis of:

  • Essay on choice of Profession or Vocation                       25 points
  • Evidence of planning for the Future                                     25 points
  • Academics (showing interest in horticultural areas)          20 points
  • GPA                                                                                           5 points
  • Activities & Service                                                                25 points
  • Total                                                                                       100 points

  • The deadline for submission to the Snohomish County committee is April 1, 2010.
  • A Snohomish County scholarship committee will screen applicants. Only one applicant from Snohomish County per year can be submitted to the State Selection Committee. The selected application will be forwarded to the Master Gardener
    Foundation of Washington State Awards Committee for final selection.
  • A representative for the county must sign the application.
  •  

Other Details

  1. Each application is considered for both the Van Bobbitt Scholarship and the Mary Robson Scholarship.
  2. The MGFWS Scholarship Committee will meet after April 1st to make their decisions. Winners will be announced after the decision has been made.
  3. Scholarship monies will be sent directly to the college/university cashier's office in the winners’ names, after proof of registration is provided to the MGFWS.

 

Snohomish County Master Gardener Foundation Scholarship

  1. Snohomish County applicants for the Robson and Babbitt scholarships are automatically placed in consideration for a separate $1000 scholarship from the Snohomish County Master Gardener Foundation.
  2. All of the requirements for the SCMGF award are the same as for the
    MGFWS scholarships and the recipient of the SCMGF award will be selected from the MGFWS applications.
